Merwin Reservoir
Steep Canyon Impoundment
Merwin Reservoir
When : February to October
What : Kokanee, Tiger Muskies
How : Standard Tackle
Merwin Reservoir is a deep canyon lake with clear green water, in a beautiful mountain setting. The lake has an abundant Kokanee population and a stable population of Tiger Muskies. For Kokanee fishing we use downriggers, ultra-light rods, and the latest techniques. Using light gear means you get to feel each fish fight to the fullest. Most of the Kokanee we catch weigh over 2 lbs with a few smaller fish mixed in. We limited the boat trip after trip for the last several years. We also fish Merwin Reservoir for Tiger Muskies from late May thru October. This is a casting game. After casting all day you may find yourself wondering if the Tiger Musky even exists. Then you make another cast and a large wake pushes towards your lure. You feel the heavy surge of a hard strike. Followed by 3 feet of striped fish flying out of the water, your lure pinned in the corner of its jaw. This fishing takes a lot of patience and persistence, but the pay off is worth all the hard work.
